Welcome to

Melanin and Melodrama

Where Asian dramas, K-pop, healing reflections, and quiet adventures meet through the lens of melanin and melodrama.

Hey, I’m Keysh 👋🏾 — a therapist and introvert learning to live a little loud sometimes, and someone who believes stories and music can heal.

When people hear I’m deeply into Asian dramas and K-pop, they’re usually surprised. But for me, it makes perfect sense. These stories explore trauma, healing, identity, and resilience in ways that often feel more emotionally honest than much of the Western media I grew up with.

Somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn’t just watching these stories — I was studying them. As a therapist, I can’t help but analyze what I’m watching:

  • Why does this character’s anxiety feel so familiar?
  • What does this breakup say about boundaries?
  • Why did this scene make me cry when I’ve never lived it?

Somewhere between late-night drama binges, lyrics that carried me through, and my own quiet introvert recharges, I realized these stories weren’t just escapes. They were helping me — and they can help others, too.

✨ Melanin in Focus

K-dramas and K-pop: thrilling, confusing, and totally addictive. Representation can be limited, and not every corner of fandom feels welcoming. Yet here we are — melanated, curious, introspective, and full of feels — finding moments in Asian media that speak directly to us, or simply let us escape for a little while.

This platform is a love letter to that experience.

🌼 A Little More About Me

  • Favorite K/C-Dramas: Something in the Rain, Business Proposal, Hidden Love
  • Go-to K-pop Jams: “Home” and “Mic Drop” by BTS, “Wildflower” by RM, and “Love Me Again” by V — though it always depends on the mood. Honestly, I love just about anything by BTS and their solo projects, especially RM and Yoongi, but I also really enjoy Ateez.
  • Favorite OST: “Love Me Like That” by Sam Kim — something about it regulates my nervous system and feels calming
  • Travel Vibe: Depends on the day — sometimes it’s chill and laid-back, other times I want to do everything

✨ Words I Live By ✨

Some lyrics and drama lines have stayed with me over the years. These are a few that I return to often.

“You don’t have to be the best. Just don’t be afraid to start.”
— Start-Up
“Even if I fall, I get up again. That’s how I learned to be strong.”
— Taeyeon, “I”
“Don’t compare yourself to others. It’s okay to go at your own pace.”
— Stray Kids, “My Pace”
“Sometimes, it’s okay to be a little selfish and put yourself first.”
— Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo
